Employees often express to me that the violence, aggression, harassment, or bullying they've experienced at work has a greater psychological impact than physical. While physical injuries are always of concern, more often than not workplace violence is perpetrated in a way that many can't see... threatening someone via text message, stealing personal belongings, spreading rumors, or making sexually explicit remarks. These forms of violence have a tremendous impact on the employee's emotional well-being. Many employees may feel embarrassed or ashamed that they cannot stop the harassment. This results in high levels of stress, anxiety, depression, and eventually burnout. Business leaders should acknowledge that WPV is an issue and create an environment where employees can discuss their concerns.
